Weather Update: We had a very scary thunderstorm yesterday, it knocked most of my corn down and took out more flowers....today I spent most of the day in the garden repairing the damage and hoping that some of the flowers make a full recovery.....
Exchange Rate: 1 Euro = $1.40 :D
Its the middle of July, Fireweed has started to spring up in NEVER NEVER LAND, and this is how I HAVE GROWN in my garden....
I have learned to share the world with all kinds of creepy crawly insects.
(Side Note: I am an ALASKAN GIRL, we don't DO BUGS.....seriously. The worst we deal with is mosquitos.)
I have walked through spider webs, had spiders crawl on me and witnessed the biggest spider I have EVER seen.....
I have come to know Ear Wigs. This has been sorta like the Alabama Cock Roaches.....I never encountered CockRoaches or Ear Wigs until I moved to all these foreign places......I prefer Ear Wigs over Cock Roaches....Mostly they are just weird.......
I have been bitten by something- I am still am not sure what it is- but I think its a horse fly- where the bite has gotten big, red, and has itched more than anything I have ever experienced in my whole life.
I am no longer terrified of bee's. In fact I have come to welcome their presence as they are necessary when growing a garden.
I have had an ant problem, which killed one of my tomato plants.....
All of the flowers in my garden have been grown from seeds....which I am not exactly sure I will ever do again.....
My Vegetable Garden is my strength and my flower garden is my blunder...
All of my flowers have bloomed later than anybody else's in the neighborhood.....
Its best to pull weeds, or hoe after it rains.....
Its extremely exciting when a flower blooms, or a fruit, or vegetable is ready to eat....
I have saved us hundreds of dollars in groceries, and we have not been able to consume everything that I have grown...luckily I have friends and neighbors willing to help us eat it.......
And...we eat WAY HEALTHY.....
Gardening is A LOT of work.....
I have started to care more about the environment, and have felt more connected to the earth......
It feels good to garden......
It feels really good to live off the land.....
It feels even better to make food out of the things you harvest......
I have learned when I feel lonely,
Or when I feel blue,
Or when I feel angry,
All I have to do is spend some time.....
Out in the dirt,
Admiring the beauty,
and simplicity,
of MY FRIEND, MY GARDEN....
And then suddenly......
I get it......
Plant a garden....
and you will too.....
Just another day in the life of an unlikely military wife...**
