Tank Girlz Weather Update: Clear, Sunny and FREEZING!
Last night we put the air mattress over the futon, I climbed in the bed first, then LEGS climbed in. We both spent about 20 minutes rolling, shifting, moving, and adjusting while the bed was groaning, burping, shaking, and farting.....when we finally got comfortable we were out in a matter or seconds. Four hours later we both woke up and the mattress had nearly deflated. After about 20 minutes of moving around some more, we decided to ditch the air mattress and tough it out on the futon, so in middle of the night we got up and remade the bed. It seems as though we were able to get decent enough sleep that way.
Today is a special day, two and half years of hard work, commitment, early flight line, night flights, pre-check ride fights/stress, spending time with a husband that is seriously not engaged, and putting humpty-dumpty LEGS back together over and over again.....LEGS got his WINGS!!!
I am so proud of him, and I am so happy we have, as a team, accomplished the stuff dreams are made of.
At WOCS graduation all the 'new' officers stood up, faced the audience and recited the Soldier's Creed. Today all the 'new' Aviator's, stood, faced the audience, and recited it again. Every time this happens I cry and this is why....
Soldier's Creed
I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.
I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.
I am guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.
Then, they called all the graduates up to accept their diplomas, and all the family members were called up to pin the wings on and take photos.
Yes..............I pinned the wings on Naked.....everybody loved it......
In closing all the newly graduated Aviators faced the audience and sung The Army Song and The Aviation Branch Song.
There was a very nice Lunch Reception after, they played a moto video of all the different helicopters flying, we had a decent meal, and then they recognized all of the spouses.
We received a 'Grad-U-Mate' certificate, that says:
'To all who shall see these presents, greeting: Be it known that
Tiffany A. Coussens
of the United States Army Spouses has successfully survived the multitudinous perils and frustrations of piloting the fledgling through Flight School. And in recognition of the patient pampering of the aspiring pilot, navigation through various vertigoes and turbulent situations, and miraculous retention of sanity is hereby declared a
GRAD-U-MATE
In Testimony whereof and by authority vested in us, we do confer this
Diploma
and honorary degree in Master of Aviation Support given at Fort Rucker, Alabama this 13th day of January 2011.
And it was signed by the Battalion Commander and his wife.
Each wife was formally recognized, stood when their name was called and were given a pair of WINGS. I received a beautiful set of wings in the form of a sterling silver necklace.....can't say I plan to take them off anytime soon.....
This is one of my grandest moments in my life so far......nothing....I mean nothing has made me more proud, made me feel more accomplished as a wife, then being given a set of wings by my husband on the day he earned his.......
Random Thoughts:
The other night I was at an informal event for the soon to be Apache Aviators and the wives. I was not treated very well by another officer wife, I put on my facebook status
'A few glasses of wine later.....I am not being overly....negative but I would like to sincerely thank the young officer wife in the black shirt sitting to the left of me for making be feel rejected, out of place and like an outcast tonight at the gathering for our husbands.....even after I said hi to you, you turned your back to me the ENTIRE night....social intelligence is lost you sweetheart...jus' sayin'....
How hilarious was it that the same girl sat next to BobDad at the Lunch Reception today? And guess what? She turned her back on him too! Validation Rocks!
Over & Out......
Just another exceptional day in the life of an unlikely military wife....**
You are so beautiful Tiff! Congrats to you both! This blog brought me to tears.
ReplyDeleteI got teary eyed reading this! We need a picture of your wings! I am glade that they formally recognize the wives who have gone through, what I imagine, was the most emotionally turbulant 2.5 years. The firefighters prayer makes me cry when it is read at events as well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to both of you! Germany will be a well earned extended vacation.
