Yesterday I woke up to a Alabama that was colder then Alaska and was supposed to run.......outside........in a race........sh*t-sh*t-sh*t.........I ran my first 5k with my friend Flora. I had a serious amount of anxiety over it, I thought Flora might leave me in the dust, I thought I might get injured or cramp up, or I would have a horrible time and hate myself forever. I kept telling myself this is supposed to be fun.........but I was scared. I even called in the big guns, my BFF Twink to calm my nerves.
I accomplished the adage do something everyday that scares you. I ran my first 5K!!!It was a total blast- its like running with the bulls- all these people just start running together- who says running is a individual sport??? Flora and I made a great running team, running with somebody was a great experience and I am sure we are friends for life now because accomplishing something like that together seals the bond. I was surprised how helpful, considerate and enthusiastic other runners in the race were, if you haven't ever run one I highly recommend it- you can walk 5k's too and they are usually for good cause.
LEGS and I found a bunch of our gift cards from our wedding, since I have been doing some major cleaning in the house. I had the time last week to check all the balances on the cards and we had a decent amount of money, to my surprise, on most of them. Since we are moving to Germany I was like we really need to spend these, and the reading I have been doing about Germany is that sometimes its hard to get things over there because it is a much smaller country.
Yesterday we set out on a major shopping mission- finish furnishing our house. I was really nervous that LEGS was going to peter out and become bratty on this mission, so we stopped for lunch (remember LEGS must be well fed, well watered and well rested). We had a burger, some nachos and a couple of beers, FYI this works like a charm!!!
Next we went to Pier One where we proceeded to debate, argue, bicker and reason about what we should purchase. We settled on some end tables on clearance, some storage shelves, and a super awesome lamp. LEGS picked out the lamp- and was quite pleased with himself. It always surprises me when we debate over furniture, because I thought we solved this argument years ago. We went furniture shopping when we bought our first house. I wanted some really trendy, futuristic jetson like couches- LEGS thought they were weird and a mistake. We called in a third party- one of LEGS' friends- who put his stamp of approval on the furniture. Since then, we have received numerous compliments on that furniture!!! ( I always have a smug smile on my face and stare down my LEGS when this happens of course).
Our bedroom has always been hard for me. My Daddy bought us a beautiful Batik painting from Indonesia for our wedding anniversary. I fell madly in love with the painting and wanted my bedroom to go eclectically with the painting. I have a picture in my mind of how I want it to look, but when I set out in the world- they don't have what I need to create it. So I settle- and I am never satisfied with how it looks. Don't you hate that??? Anywhoo I found an awesome Duvet cover that I put on the bed last night- its perfect!!!! Finally- I feel like our special place in the house is starting to turn out the way I want it......At Christmas time my mother in law is going to teach me how to sew I cannot wait to sew my own curtains and pillows to finish off this space.....
We hit up a few other spots and drove home with a car full of supplies for nesting. As as military wife I feel like we never really have a solid foundation because we are always moving, transitioning, or settling just to move again. Its one of the things that I struggle with, so its always comforting to me when I am able to create an environment that feels like home. We invited some friends over, made some Chili, drank some wine, and cozied up in our house on a cold Alabama night- these are the kinda of nights that make life worth living.........**
I LOVE your duvet cover. I have one very similar on my "wish list" from bed bath and beyond.
