Happy Halloween!!!
LEGS and I threw a party this year for Halloween because we have the space and the time to take on such an endeavor. I did not want to spend a lot of money on decorations so we went to Walmart and got a lot of that fake cobweb stuff which I hung all over the house and outside on our hedges.
We contemplated over our costumes as well. I wish I could take credit but LEGS came up with the idea to be Steampunks. A Steampunk is a genre of science-fiction, alternate history and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980's and 1990's. Specifically Steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used- usually 19th Century or Victorian Era Britain. It incorporates prominent elements of science fiction or fantasy. Works of a Steampunk often feature futuristic innovations as the Victorians would have envisioned them, in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural culture, and art. Think the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Next, I took all the bulbs out of the old school chandeliers we have hanging all over our house and spray painted them various Halloween oriented colors. In one room I had black cobwebs over a chandelier that looked like it had blood dripping down all the light bulbs. I painted some orange and I also got a few black light bulbs to place around the house. In the downstairs bathroom I took the light bulbs out of it and used candle light to illuminate the bathroom. I also wrote "Bloody Mary" on the mirror with a lip pencil.
I always wanted to make Jungle Juice as well. So I did some research on how to do it. Some of the recipes that I came across required bottles and bottles of all kinds of liquor which I avoided for two reasons- what a hangover and what a ridiculous waste of booze!!! I found one that just required Everclear which a little goes a long way, cherry koolaid, Lemonade mix, a couple cans of frozen juice and fruit. I was petrified that I would screw it up- the recipe said to make it in a cooler. I poured in two bottles of Everclear, two cups of cherry koolaid, two cups of Lemonade mix and added the required amount of water for the mixes. I stirred it all up and started to add fruit; grapes, pineapple chunks with the juice, and clementines. I let that sit for most of the afternoon so the fruit would soak up the booze. Then before the party started I added two cans of frozen juice and 1/2 bottle of Everclear to taste. It turned out spectacular and I was given many compliments on it!!!
The start time to the party was 730pm. By 830 LEGS and I thought nobody was coming and it was just going to be the two of us with a bunch of jungle juice. LOLZ! Finally people started arriving. We had a great time playing beer pong, drinking jungle juice, eating the great food everybody brought, laughing and socializing. Everybody put forth such effort in their costumes and looked so great that it looked like a Halloween Party out of a movie.
Besides the meltdown that LEGS and I had in the liquor store that morning and the fact that they did not have beaumonde seasoning for my famous dip any where down here- it went off with out a hitch. I would also like to state that for the record we did not go to bed until 4am. We are so lucky to have such creative, entertaining, beautiful and wicked cool friends!!!! Thank you everybody for coming and celebrating all Hallow's Eve with us.......trick or treat?**
