Today is Kelsey Scott Marshall Billet's Birthday. Tomorrow is the Marine Corps Birthday. And Thursday is Veteran's Day. These three days could not be more fitting in all of history- if they were not together.
As I sit in my flip flops and socks, and sweatpants, I'm fixing to enhance your brain check it out, once upon a time not long ago.......
28 years ago on Tuesday November 9th, 1982 Kelsey Scott Marshall was born. She also goes by, Kel Bell, Twink, Devil Dog, Sargent, Romy, Brat, Eeyore, Sister, Daughter, Wife and Best Friend Forever. She is a United States Marine. She scored a 1500 on the SAT's. She drinks double captain and cokes, cannot handle tequila, loves animals, hates people, loves to read, but hates to write.
The first time we hung out I made her drive me around while I smoked my first cigarette. When I went to throw it out the window it flew back in the car and burned a gigantic hole in the seat of her father's car. We were always rammin' and runnin', and rammin and runnin' in the red ram charger, always lying, getting into trouble, hiding, being loud, getting into fights, kissing boys, and partying. When we weren't grounded, getting suspended from school, failing classes or putting up with our crazy family drama- we were together.
For the last 12 years we have been the best of friends. She has been at Parris Island in South Carolina while I was in Alaska. She got stationed in Japan while I was still in Alaska. She went to California, and then Afghanistan, while I stayed in Alaska. She traveled across the United States to South Carolina, while I moved to Alabama and we are still best friends forever. She has served our country while I have written her letters, I have gone through deployments with LEGS while she has listened to me cry and felt my heartache, we have both married, moved, and changed.........made new friends, said goodbye to old but never each other....
Our lives have been very different in every sense of the word but we have still remained close, intimate and our relationship has been very special to me. She has been my Maid of Honor, my rock, my devil's advocate, my sounding board, the one I laugh the hardest with, cry the most too, and tell ALL my SECRETS. She is cynical, skeptical, and sarcastic, smart, sexy, strong, wild, magisterial, fierce, loyal and (heavy sigh).... simply exquisite. She loves earrings, expensive shoes, and is an EXPERT SHOOTER for the US Marines. She likes stand up comedy, music, snow machining, good food, good drinks, and good-looking men in Uniform ;).
She is the one that I will want if anything ever happens to LEGS, she is the one that I would walk through hell with, survive the end of the earth with, and kick A LOT of a** with. She is the one I never question, never doubt, and could never live without. When its hurt to look back, I've been scared to look ahead, I have looked beside me and she has been there.
"A friend is someone with whom I may be sincere. Before her I think aloud. I am arrived at last in the presence of a woman so real and equal, that I may drop those under most garments of dissimulation, courtesy, and second thought, which women never put off, and may deal with her with the simplicity, and wholeness with which one chemical atom meets another." Ralph Waldo Emerson
You have inspired me to be strong, fearless (even though I am scared sh*tless), fierce, tough, you have shown me that its okay to be a strong woman and still be sexy and I could never forget or regret all that we have been through. The connection I have with you Twink, Romy, Kels can never be imitated, duplicated or re-created...and I cannot wait for the future.....I love you so much, Happy Birthday!!! (do the ditty if you want to ;) )
"You only meet your once in a lifetime friend.....ONCE in a lifetime." Little Rascals
